A graduate from the Beaux-Arts School in Marseille, Gabriel Delprat was born in 1939 and works in Arles, one of the places haunted by Van Gogh. Often on very rustic papers, which sometimes he produces himseif, a black or colored stroke is the expression of Delprat’s sensibility. His search of simplicity is reminiscent of Asian masters. In his colored canvasses this painter hides under the appearance of facility a very searching approach. Sometimes looking very easy, other times quite complex, Delprat’s painting is one of the most obvious examples of the cultural proximity between Provence and California. His painting is in constant evolution and the diversity of his work, although built on a stable philosophy, attracts individuals of very different personalities Delprat has participated in solo exhibitions since 1972 in France and in Switzerland, and in group exhibitions since 1973, in Europe and Japan. He has published an art book and a TV film.
