Pierre Gastaud was born in Nice-Cote d'Azur en 1920, and since 1955 lives and works both in Paris and Nice country. .
Il is one master of the Paris school which was so imaginative and "avant garde" during the fifties. He had many personnal exhibitions in Paris, France and Europe.
Pierre GASTAUD's paintings is a Baroque spectacle in artistic and historic terms. Severity and sensuality are two notions which are brought to mind by his painting. One is assailed by its brightness and struck by the forms that the painter has invented; the composition is also as elaborated as that of the masters of the Renaissance. The colours flash out, are decomposed into subtle irisations to be reformed into masses which accrete to an equilibrium. His works give the impression of escaping from their dimensions - painted with so much vigour that each one is a new creation not inspired by anything that precedes. One hardly dares to call this painting abstract. The forms that the brushes draw have become so familiar to the observer that he is drawn by a force which does not so much incite a dream ar an inner regeneretion.The works of Gastaud are passionately optimistic and dynamic.They generate joy.
