Born in Paris in 1929. Lives and works in Marseille.
Painter and theorical physicist, paints since 1943 when he won an art prize at the HOUSTON museum in Texas. Coming back from US after the war, he became mathematician and physicist, and created in 1970 the department of visual arts at the Luminy-Marseille Faculty of Sciences. He is member of the ed
itorial board of LEONARDO the journal of Art and Technology (MIT press). He is also deeply involve in contemporary music working with rhe MIM in Marseille. Since 1954, he had several personnal exhibitions in France : Paris, Aix en Provence, Marseille, in Canada and Japan.
"After having made for several years figarative paintings, I does now essentially abstract works. Abstraction clarifies figuration by bringing to light its underlying structure and vocabulary, and conversly figurative art can lead an artist to enrich his abstrat vocabulary in order to adapt it to a given theme ?
My abstract painting has two main trends : one linked to the many bushes I painted in the country side of Aix en Provence. The other one corresponds to pure and simple signs, giving my pictorial idea of the moment or rather my mental image in its pure expression. Therefore, I add nothing to the background which I leave blank . Finally I should add that contrarily to most western artists whose pictorial ideas arise during the making of a painting I slowly prepare each painting in mind and muscles before starting until it gives me the feeling of being right, and then I materialize it siftly with no going back untill I reach the conformity to the initial mental image I wanted to materialize.
