This son of desert, born in Southern Morocco, walks through the world with a child’s eye. Attracted to dreams, the artist, who for 15 years taught at the Ecole des Beaux Art at Aix en Provence, has made contemplation his capital and the desert his refuge. He travels via symbols (Indian, Celtic or Moroccan), and can work in any format, from the smallest to the largest. As far as Nabili’s paintings are concerned, one thinks of an artist such as Klee, an artist in fact whom he admires, as Klee also delved deeply into the North African colors. Nabili cannot disassociate his painting from his environment. This environment has such beauty that, like the Navarro or Zuni Indians, when the artist is present the communion of nature and the spirit culminates in creations rich in ancient history.
This nomadic Touareg nourishes his works with allegories and symbols from his past and his culture with a surprising modernity. His work seems to be the colorful and sensual transformation of his carnal attachment to the land, grains of sand, blue skies and the silence of the desert. Through his work Nabili shows us an affectionate and intuitive vision old as the world of the relation between man and nature. Navigating between abstract canvasses, Nabili liberates the poetry of places. He is a painter whose sensibility harmonizes with the tranquillity and the grandeur of the American southwest.
Since 1968 Nabili has held personal exhibitions in France, mostly in Marseille at the HORIZON Gallery, in Morocco, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and the United States (San Diego and California).
