Guennadi Vassilkov was born in Ukraine in 1947. From 1962 to 1973 he studied at at the Industrial and Art School in Krakow. He his a founder and member of the Fine Art Academy of Tbilissi one of the former Soviet Union’s most prestigious establishments. Living in France for the last decade he found serenity under the Provencal sky. Vassilkov’s spiritual master was MALEVICH but he feels closer to the second pillar of the avant garde, his russian fellow KANDINSKY. He was also a friend of Poliakoff. Although he has escaped from his home country, he continued to laud Perestroika with a simultaneous desire to return to Central Asia steppes combined with a willingness to sublimate this period of liberation in his work. The burns of frozen lands he paints contrasts with the objects of primary materialism. The use of rusted metals, pieces of wood and electronic components, combined with an oil painting style results in exceptional canvasses.
The originality of his work is recognized by numerous critics and galleries all over Europe where personnal exhibitions have been presented in Paris, Marseille, Barcelonna, Belgium...
He lives both in Moscow and France but his work continues to be regurarly presented by "Galerie Horizon" and other European galleries.
